ST ALOYSIUS’ COLLEGE: THE SCHOOL

St Aloysius’ College is unique. Scotland’s only Jesuit school is situated at the very heart of the city of Glasgow, with a large campus right next to the Glasgow School of Art and near to the Royal Conservatoire, few schools feel quite so much part of the city. Our iconic green blazer is as much a part of the city as the Clyde and Central Station. The College has a proud tradition of academic excellence with results placing us amongst the top performing schools in the country. The College occupies a range of buildings from the imposing and listed 1859 Hanson Building, through the award winning Clavius Science Building to the £8 million sports complex at the very heart of our site.

The College is proud of its traditions but is forward looking and determined to continue with its vision to create ‘men and women for others’ for the next 160 years and beyond. We are proudly independent and members of HMC but we are also linked to the worldwide Jesuit network of schools educating over 2.5 million students worldwide. This brings unique opportunities for training, development and engagement with leading schools across the globe.

The College is proudly a Jesuit and Catholic school but its community is diverse.

The Role

Working as a Teacher within the Humanities department with us is a unique experience. You will enjoy small classes and a personalised approach and, as part of a highly motivated and passionate team of staff committed to collaborative teaching and learning, you will help shape the future of our young people.

You will teach a range of classes, from S1 to National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher levels. Experience in teaching National Qualifications is essential. The ability to contribute to other areas of the Humanities curriculum may also be advantageous.

What you will need to succeed

You will have the ability to plan coherent, progressive, and stimulating teaching lessons matched to individual pupils’ needs, incorporating current affairs and contemporary issues into lessons to make learning relevant and dynamic. You will practice a range of innovative and creative teaching strategies and methodologies. You should have experience of presenting pupils for National Qualifications in Modern Studies.

St Aloysius’ College encourages all staff to pursue continuous professional learning opportunities to update their skills and improve their knowledge throughout their careers.

Applicants should nominate two referees to support their application, one of whom should be their current or most recent employer. Please note that references will only be taken up for the successful candidate.

St Aloysius’ College places safeguarding of its pupils as its highest priority. As such, the successful applicant will be subject to satisfactory references, appropriate qualification checks and advanced PVG clearance. Appropriate safeguarding and safer recruitment questions will form part of the selection process.

The successful candidate will be placed on the St Aloysius’ College pay scales and will have the opportunity to join a highly competitive Defined Contribution Pension Scheme.
