Consultant Clinical Scientist – Head of Health Physics - #1699916

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

The shift pattern for this post is Monday to Friday core hours.

Health Physics provides ionising and non-ionising radiation protection services, as well as Medical Physics Expert services in Diagnostic Radiology. The section is part of the Board’s Department of Clinical Physics and Bioengineering (DCPB), one of the largest medical physics departments within the United Kingdom. We are looking for an experienced leader for a team including twelve physicists and five technologists. Health Physics provides services to eight Health Boards within the west and borders of Scotland. You will lead continuous change as the department responds to changes in legislation, technology and clinical requirements. You will also lead on a range of education and training courses, including those provided in collaboration with the University of Glasgow.

Applicants should have a good honours Degree in Physical Sciences, a MSc in Medical Physics or equivalent experience, and ideally have a PhD. You must be registered as a Clinical Scientist with HCPC and hold current certificates of competence from RPA2000 as a Radiation Protection Advisor (RPA) and Medical Physics Expert (MPE) in Diagnostic Radiology. Applicants will also be required to demonstrate good management and communication skills, plus a research portfolio.

The city is close to the beautiful Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, Central Highlands and the West Coast. There are excellent transport links with the rest of the UK and further afield.
