Contract type: Full time
Work schedule: Full day
NHS Scotland
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

Applications are invited to join our dynamic, forward thinking and friendly team as a Consultant Clinical Scientist

(Radiation Protection Adviser and Medical Physics Expert).

Health Physics provides ionising and non-ionising radiation protection services, as well as Medical Physics Expert services in Diagnostic Radiology. The section is part of the Board’s Department of Clinical Physics and Bioengineering (DCPB), one of the largest medical physics departments within the United Kingdom.

We are looking for an experienced medical physicist to participate in delivering and developing the radiation protection services provided by Health Physics to hospitals throughout the West and Borders of Scotland. You will join a proactive team including twelve physicists and five technologists and will have opportunity to contribute to continuous change as the department responds to changes in legislation, technology and clinical requirements.

You will also lead on a range of education and training courses, including those provided in collaboration with the University of Glasgow.

Applicants should have a good honours Degree in Physical Sciences and have completed a formal training programme in medical physics equivalent to the NSHCS Scientist Training Programme (STP) or Scottish Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering Training Scheme (SMPCETS). You must be registered as a Clinical Scientist with HCPC and hold current certificates of competence from RPA2000 as a Radiation Protection Advisor (RPA) and Medical Physics Expert (MPE) in Diagnostic Radiology. Applicants will also be required to demonstrate good management and communication skills.

This is an exciting time to be part of the Health Physics service as NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde embarks upon an ambitious development programme that embraces innovation and technology to underpin safe, effective and patient centred care.

Glasgow is a vibrant city, which has a wealth of sporting and cultural opportunities on offer, including being home to several orchestras, and famous art galleries and museums. The city is close to the beautiful Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, Central Highlands and the West Coast. There are excellent transport links with the rest of the UK and further afield.
