As a Senior Director of Software Engineering at JPMorgan Chase within the Infrastructure Platforms (IP) team, you lead multiple technical areas, directing the activities of multiple groups, and collaborate across technical domains. Your expertise is applied cross-functionally to drive the adoption and implementation of technical methods within various teams and aid the firm in remaining at the forefront of industry trends, best practices, and technological advances.

This role is for a senior engineer to help define and drive our engineering working practices and standards for engineering across Infrastructure Platforms (IP), an engineering group with over 5000 engineers delivering software and infrastructure to our partners and customers. Reporting to the Head of Engineering Practices for IP, you'll be key to leading transformation in our engineering function so that we are truly world class in quality and execution.

Job responsibilities 

• Defines and leads multiple technology and process implementations across groups to achieve firmwide technology objectives, working in a matrix model


• Direct multiple areas with strategic transactional focus, influencing across peers to align and execute


• Focused on establishing strategic goals and the lower level details of how we develop our platforms, services and products, close to the ground so that you can identify opportunities and drive real change but also versed in our big picture goals.


• Practically engaged with the technical nuance of building infrastructure systems, our agile engineering processes (e.g. Coding Standards, Definition of Done, Design Processes, Agile PTX) and our controls and standards for technology development across Infrastructure Platforms (IP). 


• Provides leadership and high-level direction to teams across our line of business 


• Acts as the primary interface with senior leaders, stakeholders, and executives, driving consensus across competing objectives


• Manages multiple stakeholders, complex projects, and large cross-product collaborations


• Work closely with the IP wide Engineering Practices leads, our IP architecture team and our risk partners to deliver business enabling solutions that comply with controls


• Influences peer leaders and senior stakeholders across the business, product, and technology teams


• Drive change at scale, focused on outcomes alongside culture 

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills 

• Formal training or certification on Software Engineering concepts and expert applied experience


• Recent hands on coding experience in any IDE is required along with deep expertise developing code in any language


• Experience of AI coding tools and using LLMs


• Experience developing or leading large or cross-functional teams of technologists and managing senior relationships


• Experience using IAC tools will be useful as will practical AWS and K8S platform knowledge


• Knowledge of CI/CD tools is required as the JPMC Developer toolchain (JET) will be foundational to your work


• Demonstrated prior experience influencing across highly matrixed, complex organizations and delivering value at scale


• Experience leading complex projects supporting system design, testing, and operational stability


• Experience with hiring, developing, and recognizing talent


• Extensive practical cloud native experience


• Expertise in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

• Financial services controls and standards experience would be an advantage
