SQL DB Engineer - #1710125

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Database Engineer to join a global financial technology team delivering cutting-edge, high-performance database solutions in Glasgow Office. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on building a modern, cloud-native Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) platform using NewSQL technologies such as CockroachDB or YugabyteDB.

You'll work at the intersection of infrastructure, development, and data, helping to design scalable, secure, and resilient OLTP systems that power critical enterprise applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and support a robust internal cloud database platform in a globally distributed environment
• Design and deploy secure, compliant infrastructure integrated with enterprise controls
• Collaborate with security teams to implement authentication and entitlement systems
• Lead operational support for the PostgreSQL ecosystem, with a focus on performance and reliability
• Evaluate and benchmark NewSQL products through POCs and performance testing
• Contribute to the automation of monitoring, alerting, and self-healing mechanisms
• Champion DevOps best practices across database development and deployment

Required Skills and Experience

• Hands-on experience with NewSQL technologies (CockroachDB or YugabyteDB - required)
• Proficient in Python scripting and development (required)
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL and ANSI SQL
• Experience with Linux systems and Kubernetes platforms
• Familiarity with modern authentication/authorization protocols (e.g., SAML, OAuth, OpenID, Kerberos)
• Proven track record in architecting high-availability, large-scale systems
• Experience in implementing monitoring frameworks, including dashboards, alerts, and incident workflows
• Exposure to Agile and DevOps methodologies
