Be-Resourcing are proud to present a fantastic new Underwriter role for our client, a UK-based mutual organisation providing legal, regulatory, and indemnity support to healthcare professionals. This role will be based in Glasgow, reporting to the Head of Underwriting and work with our clients in-house actuaries and underwriting assistants. The post-holder will be involved in the underwriting and pricing of new and renewal business, business development and product design.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain underwriting policies and procedures ensuring they are fit for purpose, embedded in the business and in line with best practice.
- To establish and oversee technical underwriting performance monitoring and reporting/MI.
- To underwrite new business and renewals within own authority limit, referring to the Head of Underwriting or others as required by formal authority limits and procedures.
- Assist relationship management and sales with client meetings.
- Support investigations relating to potential fraudulent claims.
- Provide effective underwriting advice to staff and senior management working throughout the organisation.
- Liaising with actuaries regarding product development and pricing proposals.
- Undertake regular horizon scanning to ensure an efficient response to regulatory change or other rules and regulations impacting the handling of underwriting.
- Responsible underwriting lead for large/high profile groups, communication with members of the Exec in sign off.
- Provide advice on Med Mal risks to MIL.
- Represent underwriting as an SME for various projects.

- Collation and presentation of information in a clear and appropriate format;

- Management of a varied workload with competing priorities, responding to internal and external queries in a timely manner;
- Effective communication – liaising and building relationships with colleagues across the organisation including CEO, Directors and Heads of Department;
- Analysing data to problem solve and make decisions confidently;

- Confidence in liaising with corporate clients;

- Attention to detail;
Experience/Qualifications needed:
- Prior experience of working for an insurance intermediary / brokerage, MGA or insurer (or equivalent indemnity business) in a technical underwriter role, ideally with Medical Malpractice or other PI experience.
- Qualifications – Graduate, formal postgraduate qualifications (e.g. CII) advantageous.
- Experience of challenging senior management and of working within a business to develop the “right” compliance culture.
- Basic knowledge of excel for underwriting performance monitoring and reporting/MI.
- Basic knowledge of actuarial pricing and being able to liaise with actuaries (preferable).
- Experience of working with corporate clients (preferable)
