Role Details:


The Civil Engineer will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team within the Approving Authority, the primary purpose of the role is to directly support current operations and future programmes. Supporting nuclear facilities & the delivery of services across both sites.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Development, assessment, maintenance, and management of nuclear infrastructure design substantiation documents.

  • Evaluation and authorization of design changes and concessions Presentation of substantiations to nuclear safety committees.

  • Production of EIMT schedules to ensure compliance with design and safety case requirements.

  • Assessment of periodic safety reviews and technical justifications.

  • Providing expert advice to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Independent technical and peer reviews of engineering processes

  • Application of engineering knowledge to sustain nuclear operations in a high-hazard environment.

  • Justification of civil/structural design modifications for authorization in a high-risk industry.


Key Requirements:


Essential:



  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the design assessment of reinforced concrete and steelwork structures to withstand dynamic loads including; earthquake motions, blast, wind, rain and snow loading.

  • Experience working on reinforced concrete and steelwork marine structures and jetties.

  • Experience of producing robust technical justification to allow for relevant civil/structural design modifications to be authorised within a high hazard industry.

  • Apply appropriate theoretical and practical methods to design, develop, manufacture, construct, commission, operate, maintain, decommission and re-cycle engineering processes, systems, services and products in a nuclear/high risk environment.

  • Use a combination of general and specialist engineering knowledge and understanding to apply existing and emerging technology.


Desirable:



  • Ideal candidates would already have experience within a nuclear environment, but this is not essential.

  • Familiarity with safety case development techniques e.g. HAZID/HAZOP studies.


Qualifications:



  • Civil / Structural Engineering degree

  • Incorporated Engineer (or equivalent experience)


Desirable:


Chartered Engineer (or equivalent experience)
