£55,000 - £70,000 + Industry-Leading Benefits

Are you a senior hydrology expert with a passion for renewable energy and peatland environments? We're partnering with a globally respected environmental consultancy to recruit an Associate Technical Director - Hydrology. This firm supports projects across the UK and internationally, with over 500 staff worldwide, while maintaining the collaborative, people-first ethos of a boutique consultancy.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced professional looking to lead technical delivery, mentor a specialist team, and contribute to the decarbonisation of energy systems-all within a values-driven, supportive environment.

About The Team

The Consenting & Environment team provides end-to-end planning and environmental services across the lifecycle of renewable energy projects. From site identification and feasibility to scoping, EIA, and post-consent support, the team combines expert project managers, planners, and technical specialists to deliver thoughtful, effective solutions.

Your Role

As Associate Technical Director, You Will

  • Provide strategic and technical leadership on hydrology and peatland-related aspects of major onshore renewable projects.
  • Guide a team of hydrologists, ensuring technical quality, mentoring, and professional development.
  • Produce, review, and sign off technical deliverables including Peat Management Plans, EIA chapters, Private Water Supply Risk Assessments (PWSRAs), and Water Monitoring Plans.
  • Oversee multiple complex projects-managing client relationships, survey logistics, and budgets.
  • Stay current with regulatory and policy developments relevant to hydrology and renewables.
  • Represent the company in client meetings, design workshops, and stakeholder consultations.
  • Support business development by identifying new opportunities and contributing to tenders and bids.

What We're Looking For

  • A degree in hydrology, environmental science, or a closely related field.
  • Significant consultancy experience within the renewable energy sector.
  • Deep, demonstrable expertise in peatland environments-including peat depth and stability surveys, risk assessments, and peatland management-is essential.
  • Proven track record in team leadership, client engagement, and project delivery.
  • Strong understanding of UK environmental legislation and planning policy.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.

Why Join?

  • Join a globally active consultancy with a strong local presence and boutique feel.
  • Work on high-impact renewable energy projects with environmental integrity at their core.
  • Be part of a supportive, values-led team that puts people and planet first.

Benefits Include

  • Enhanced maternity and paternity pay
  • Life assurance and Bupa private healthcare
  • Income protection
  • Discounted holidays and lifestyle perks
  • 8% employer pension contribution
  • 25 days' annual leave + 10 bank holidays
  • Flexible hybrid working from Stirling or Glasgow
