The Planning Manager is responsible for leadership, direction, management and performance of the planning department supporting electric transmission projects across the United Kingdom. The Planning Manager is to assure that the resources, roles and responsibilities, processes and procedures, planning and reporting systems are developed, available and properly functioning in accordance with industry best practices for the successful completion of complex infrastructure projects, adhering to all regulatory standards, client requirements and NEC contract requirements.

Essential Job Functions

  • Lead a high-performing department capable of performing complex project planning functions to support project initiation, monitoring, controlling and change management.
  • Manage the development, implementation and maintenance of a programme reporting system.
  • Direct and support programme management activities involving critical path method (CPM) techniques.
  • Collaborate with Estimating, Quantity Surveying, and Document Control teams to support effective project cost management, forecasting, and document governance across multiple projects.
  • Facilitate and lead collaborative planning sessions with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Development, maintenance, submission and acceptance of project programmes in accordance with NEC requirements, client requirements and industry best practices
  • Know, understand, and work within the requirements of the NEC 3 and 4 (Engineering and Construction Contracts (ECC).
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with existing and potential clients, customers and contractors to develop additional business opportunities.
  • Responsible for the recruitment, development, training, and retention of staff.
  • Responsible for conducting regular performance evaluations, provide coaching and mentoring, and promote a high-performance culture within the department staff.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and strategic guidance to the planning department, aligned with organizational goals.
  • Responsible for interpreting the organization's policies, procedures, and goals to staff.
  • Responsible for overall QA/QC process adherence.
  • Enforce compliance with company and site safety policies.
  • Able to collaborate with clients and subcontractors in programme development and updating.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all Burns & McDonnell policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management or related field.
  • 7 years direct project planning experience.
  • Prior management experience preferred
  • Expert Primavera P6 knowledge and experience.
  • Familiarity with time impact analysis and forensic scheduling preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with the NEC form of contract.
  • Applicable experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Must have field experience in order to facilitate and produce detailed construction programmes and interface those construction programmes with engineering and procurement activities.
  • Ability to work independently, think creatively and analytically, and make quick and sound decisions.
  • Engineering, Procurement, and Construction of electrical substation experience preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
