Clinical Research Fellow: Early Phase Clinical Trials - Cancer

The Beatson Clinical Research Facility (BCRF) is based at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre, Glasgow. It provides support for the full range of Phase I, II and III clinical trials, covering all solid tumours and haematological malignancies in adults, and has responsibility for haemato-oncology clinical trials, including cellular therapies, at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital campus as well as some activity at other sites within Greater Glasgow & Clyde Health Board.

The post is associated with the Clinical Research Unit within the Beatson Clinical Research Facility and will be primarily concerned with the conduct of cancer clinical trials with a focus on early phase / translational research studies.

The post-holder will be expected to act as a co-investigator or sub-investigator on a portfolio of academically and commercially sponsored experimental drug trials as well as associated translational clinical research studies, particularly precision medicine as applied to experimental medicine.

The post holder will work primarily alongside the Phase I / early phase trials Team (Professor Jeff Evans, Professor Patricia Roxburgh, Professor Richard Wilson, and Dr Pavlina Spiliopoulou) and may include tumour-specific early phase trials led by other investigators.

This is a fixed term post for 12 months and is suitable for either post-Foundation doctors with an interest in training in Medical or Clinical Oncology, or a Medical or Clinical Oncology Specialist Registrar (or equivalent if from outside of the UK) who wishes to gain additional training in clinical trials and / or experimental medicine.

Key duties as part of the early phase clinical trials team will include:

phase I team meeting for review of on-going and pending studies and patient allocation meeting for specific trials (weekly)

phase I trials new patient clinic (weekly)

review of patients who are on treatment, and studyspecific procedures, in studies for which they are a co- investigator or sub-investigator (multiple clinical sessions during the week: Clinical Research Unit)

participation in regular (weekly or bi-weekly) safety review committee & dose decision teleconferences with other national and international investigator sites and study sponsors

data review and investigator support for the Clinical Trial Coordinators at the B-CRF

medical support of the Research Nurses, Clinical Research Unit

Joint Glasgow Edinburgh Molecular Tumour Board (early phase trials: fortnightly)

National Molecular Tumour Board (ECMC TARGET National Trial; weekly)

Depending on the interests of the successful candidate, there will be the opportunity to gain experience in:

administration of intra-tumoral novel Immunotherapeutics

precision medicine

cellular therapies

clinical trial development, set-up, and delivery

biomarker development as applied to clinical trials in collaboration with the Translational Pharmacology Laboratory and CR-UK Centre for Drug Development Glasgow Biomarkers Hub

Minimal Requirements: the candidate is required to have experience working in the NHS as a foundation doctor or core trainee.
