What's the role?

The Financial Controller, supported by a team of management accountants, is responsible for the centralised financial governance and day-to-day finance activity of several legal entities of the business.

As custodians of the balance sheet and reporting submissions for consolidation purposes, the Financial Controller and team are responsible for delivering accurate and timely reporting of financial information required for monthly Group and annual statutory reporting.

Covering two of the Group’s core business divisions, one established and one new and growing, this is a key management role that will require exemplary influencing and stakeholder management skills, and team management, with a passion and drive for creating and evolving processes and controls.

You will be working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday from our Glasgow office. Please note: this is a 14 month Fixed Term Contract.

Key responsibilities:

  • Overall management and delivery of the month end financial reporting of the legal entities including financial analysis and commentary.
  • Ensure balance sheet reconciliations are completed accurately and within reporting deadlines with any queries resolved in a timely manner.
  • Cash management including tracking and forecasting.
  • Ownership of budgeting and forecasting for the legal entities, working closely with operational and commercial teams.
  • Ensure compliance on all tax related matters, including VAT, transfer pricing etc.
  • Support with grant claim processes and management of third-party assurance reviews.
  • Lead year-end statutory audit process, liaising with auditors.
  • Accounting reviews of new or modified areas, ensuring compliance with IFRS.
  • Develop and document new business processes as required and drive continuous improvement to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Support accounting system upgrades and identify target areas for system optimisation.
  • Effective collaboration with others within the reporting function along with the commercial and transactional finance teams.
  • Go-to finance contact for the divisional Managing Directors
  • Day to day management and development of a small team of management accountants.
  • Provision of ad-hoc support to the Director of Financial Reporting with involvement in projects as required.

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • Qualified accountant - CA/ACCA or equivalent qualification
  • Experience in a business or finance environment
  • Financial reporting experience, with extensive experience in month end and year end close process - International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRSs) preferable.
  • Familiarity with all Microsoft packages with advanced excel skills.
  • Experience of general ledger systems; knowledge and experience of Microsoft Dynamics 365 an advantage.
  • Experience of leading a small team.
  • Experience of managing and influencing senior stakeholders.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, demonstrates curiosity.
  • Highly developed communication and presentation skills with ability to explain information in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Strong organisational skills with ability to prioritise competing demands.
