Job Overview
Job purpose
The Institute of Photonics (IoP) is a research division of the Department of Physics. It has approximately 70 staff and postgraduate students, predominantly based in the Technology and Innovation Centre (TIC). The Institute seeks to appoint a Modern Apprentice who will provide technical support to the semiconductor cleanroom in TIC.
The Institute of Phototonic’s own staff and students use the cleanroom for delivery of several major collaborative research programmes, and it is also accessible to external partners in a variety of modes, including commercial access. The successful applicant will work within a small operational team and undertake a mix of scheduled and more responsive tasks.
Equipment repairs and investigations.
Support of the cleanroom’s operation as a facility, including contributions on contamination control, waste disposal, and laundry contract operation.
Gaining familiarities with relevant technical knowledge in semiconductor processes.
SVQ in performing engineering operations and SVQ in technical support.
Minimum of 4 Nat 5’s at A, B and C (or equivalent) which must include English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
IT proficiency on computer packages, stand-alone and networked systems.
Ability to exchange factual information, verbally and in writing.
Excellent communication, numeracy and organisational skills.
