What You’ll Do
As a Trainee Climbing Engineer, you will play an integral part of the Field Engineering team. You will be developed to perform installation and maintenance activities in support of the fixed and mobile networks, as well as Vodafone business solutions.
You will also learn to install, commission and maintain our network, products and services to agreed standards and service levels without compromising safe working practices.

What You’ll Do
As a Trainee Climbing Engineer, you will play an integral part of the Field Engineering team. You will be developed to perform installation and maintenance activities in support of the fixed and mobile networks, as well as Vodafone business solutions.
You will also learn to install, commission and maintain our network, products and services to agreed standards and service levels without compromising safe working practices.
- This is a training role and will play an integral part of the Field Engineering team, performing installation activities in support of our networks at both core and customer sites as well as carrying out low complexity assure activity on both the mobile and fixed estates.
- Provide support to Field Engineers where required whilst developing skillset and potential
- Regular climbing of our extensive fixed and mobile infrastructure is essential. The role holder will be expected to undertake regular health assessments to ensure that all aspects of the role is carried out safely
- Adherence to quality and H&S standards as well as achieving agreed performance targets is essential to this role
- The role holder must have a flexible approach to working hours and be willing to travel if required to meet the demands of the business
- The role holder may be required to work an out of hours pre-planned works rota in alignment with the requirements of the Operating Unit you are assigned to but will not be on-call
- Rooftop based working including the use of ladders up to 3 metres is essential and the role holder will be expected to undertake regular health assessments to ensure that all physical aspects of the role may be carried out safely
- The Field Engineering role is a physical one, with the need for manual lifting, climbing stairs, walking and being on your feet for large parts of the day, working in both inside and outside environments
- Ability to work both in a team and on your own efficiently and effectively
- Excellent customer-facing skills
- Ability to achieve and maintain Advanced Climber / Tower Rescue Certification and passing regular health assessments in accordance with MATS guidance.
- Ability to work in a focused manner under pressure to meet tight deadlines, as well as the ability to manage own workload
- Adaptability and the ability to learn new skills quickly
- Valid / full UK / EU driving license (Category B)
- Hands on experience with any of the following Telecommunications technologies is desired, but not required for this role
- Core transmission technologies e.g. DWDM and Ethernet
- Fibre and copper cabling and termination
- Multi-Vendor CPE and Unified Communications
- Mobile networking technologies 3G/4G/5G and associated equipment
- Microwave Radio
