NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Paediatric Neuropsychology Service at the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow. Paediatric Neuropsychology are a small team of Clinical Psychologists and Clinical Neuropsychologists, based within a tertiary neurosciences service. The post holder would work with children aged 0-18 with a variety of clinical presentations, including epilepsy, traumatic brain injury, brain tumour and other acquired brain injuries. Clinically, the post's main remit is to assess a child or young person's cognitive, emotional and behavioural functioning, and develop bespoke plans for how they are supported in hospital, at home, school and in the community. The majority of assessment is completed on an outpatient basis, but inpatient work will also arise. The role involves a significant amount of professional liaison both within the hospital setting and with education, social work and third sector agencies.

As a specialist service, the team receive many requests for teaching/training/consultation and it is expected that the post holder would contribute to this, with support and supervision. Clinical supervision would be provided by a consultant clinical neuropsychologist. The post holder would also work closely with other very experienced clinicians within the team. There may be opportunities to complete further training in paediatric neuropsychology once established in role. The team have a strong research reputation within paediatric neurosciences; opportunities to be involved in research would arise.

The post holder would be part of a grouping of more than 100 psychologists in Specialist Children’s Services and of around 350 psychologists in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board. There are good links both to the West of Scotland Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Programme (University of Glasgow) and to the MSc in Applied Psychology for Children and Young People (University of Edinburgh).

We would welcome applications from Clinical Psychologists with an interest in paediatric neuropsychology, who would enjoy the experience and challenge of working in a busy, acute hospital setting.

Informal Contact: Liam Dorris or Amy Thomson, Clinical Psychologists on 0141 451 6554.
