NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. The shift pattern for this post is 37 hrs per week over 5 days-4 days 0900- 1700 & 1 day 0900- 1630 including weekend working and public holidays
The Pharmacy Distribution Centre (PDC) comprises of 3 main areas - Unit F Warehouse, Unit F Office team which comprises of Purchasing & Homecare Teams and Unit C Vaccine Holding Centre. PDC is the centralised area for purchasing and supply of medicinal products and vaccines across GG&C and NHS Highland.
PDC has 10 automated robots within the warehouse area, to ensure an accurate & efficient supply of medicinal products are distributed for use across all areas to ensure the clinical need of patients is met within an agreed timescale.
We are looking for a suitably qualified and experienced Pharmacy Technician to join the Pharmacy Distribution Centre Purchasing Team. Your role will be to work closely with the B6 Purchasing Pharmacy Technician Specialist to manage the workload, staffing resource and ensure that appropriate governance and standing financial instructions are adhered to. You will be responsible for contract management, managing medicine shortages and scoping unlicensed medicines amongst other purchasing related tasks liaising with Pharmacy Departments, Clinical Teams, National Services Scotland and Financial Teams.
The post holder will have relevant pharmacy technical experience and will work collaboratively with the pharmacy purchasing team and clinical pharmacists to achieve a cohesive approach to purchasing medicines and optimise the cost effective use of medicines within the acute setting. Purchasing provider engagement, medicines expenditure data analysis and Pharmacy representation at meetings make this an exciting opportunity to apply your knowledge, skills and experience. You must be confident to work independently as part of a team interchangeably. You will have excellent communication, organisational and time management skills as you will provide day to day leadership and support for our large and friendly pharmacy team. This position will support your personal development and provide you with the opportunity to facilitate the innovation and changing practices in line with the pharmacy strategy and vision. You will work with a team who strive to develop pharmacy services using quality improvement methodology to demonstrate service improvement.
Candidates must be registered with The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and have significant post qualification experience
providing a broad understanding of a range of pharmacy technical practice including staff management. Evidence of core skills in data interrogation and ability to use Microsoft packages and pharmacy systems is required.
