Job Description – Security Engineer (Contract)

Role: Security Engineer
Type: Contract
Location: Remote (United Kingdom)
Role Overview:We are seeking an experienced Security Engineer to join a dynamic and security-focused team delivering critical projects within a regulated environment. This role will involve ensuring robust security controls, compliance with industry frameworks, and supporting secure system design and operations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Implement and maintain security controls aligned with ISO 27001 and NIST frameworks
  • Support and manage security accreditation processes
  • Monitor, detect, and respond to threats using SIEM tools (e.g. Splunk)
  • Configure and manage IDS/IPS systems, firewalls, and DLP solutions
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and security testing
  • Perform risk assessments and ensure compliance with security standards
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, policies, and SOPs
  • Support incident response activities and ongoing security operations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed security best practices
Key Skills & Experience
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 27001, NIST, and security best practices
  • Proven experience in security accreditation and compliance processes
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • SIEM tools (e.g. Splunk)
    • IDS/IPS, firewalls, and DLP solutions
  • Experience in vulnerability management and penetration testing concepts
  • Solid understanding of risk assessment methodologies
  • Strong documentation skills, including creation of SOPs and technical artefacts
  • Experience within incident response or security operations environments
Nice to Have
  • Experience with cloud security (Azure, Databricks)
  • Knowledge of OWASP, application security, or penetration testing
  • Previous experience working on government or public sector projects
