Hays Specialist Recruitment Limited

Your new company

Our client is a well-established and internationally operating organisation with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality products and services across global markets. With a focus on operational excellence, compliance, and continuous improvement, the business is committed to investing in its supply chain and logistics function to support future growth. This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative and fast-paced environment where transport and logistics play a critical role in overall business success.

Your new role

As Transport Controller, you will be responsible for managing and optimising UK and international transport operations, ensuring the timely, cost-effective and compliant movement of goods. You will oversee carrier performance, negotiate transport agreements, monitor expenditure, and drive continuous improvement initiatives across the transport function.

Working closely with internal stakeholders, you will ensure service levels are maintained while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs. The role also carries responsibility for ensuring compliance with HMRC and transport regulations, managing customs and shipping documentation, supporting audit requirements, and contributing to longer-term transport planning strategies. This is a varied position that combines operational coordination, commercial decision-making, and stakeholder management.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, you will have previous experience in transport, logistics, supply chain or freight operations, ideally with responsibility for planning, scheduling and carrier management. You will possess a strong understanding of transport legislation and compliance requirements, alongside excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.

You will also demonstrate:

Experience in transport planning, scheduling or logistics operations
Strong commercial awareness and cost-control experience
Knowledge of HMRC, customs or transport compliance procedures
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Strong IT skills and a proactive, solutions-focused approach
The ability to analyse performance data and drive improvements

What you'll get in return

In return you will have the opportunity to join a growing and forward-thinking organisation where you can make a significant impact within a key operational function. You'll gain exposure to both UK and international logistics operations, work with a supportive team, and play an important role in driving business efficiency and service excellence. A competitive salary and benefits package is available for the successful candidate, alongside opportunities for professional development and career progression.
