Trainee Independent Financial Adviser

Predominantly Remote | Glasgow one day per fortnight

£35,000 + Uncapped Quarterly Bonus | Full Adviser Training Programme

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an ambitious individual looking to make the move into financial advice with a large, established UK financial planning business.

This is a genuine Trainee Financial Adviser position offering a structured route into client-facing advice, extensive training, a gradual introduction to managing client reviews and significant longer-term earning potential.

The position is predominantly home-based, with client meetings conducted remotely via video. You will need to attend one of the firm's offices in Nottingham, Wilmslow or Glasgow approximately once every two weeks for team meetings, training and ongoing development.

A proper route into financial advice

One of the biggest challenges for people looking to become Financial Advisers is getting that first opportunity to gain genuine client-facing experience.

This role has been specifically structured to provide that transition.

Your first six months will involve a comprehensive induction and development programme, including:

  • Three weeks of intensive initial training
  • Role-play client meetings and reviews
  • Recorded calls and structured feedback
  • A dedicated buddy within the team
  • Regular coaching and ongoing development
  • A gradual introduction to live client meetings
  • Full administrative and paraplanning support

Initially, you will typically conduct around one straightforward client review per day, predominantly involving existing clients where little or no change is required.

There are no targets during your first quarter, allowing you to concentrate on developing your knowledge, confidence and client-facing skills.

As your experience develops, the number of client meetings you conduct will gradually increase, as will the complexity of the clients and advice you handle.

Focus on becoming a great Adviser

There is no requirement to prospect for clients, generate leads or build a client bank from scratch.

Your clients are provided by the business and your diary is managed and populated for you.

You'll also receive full paraplanning and administration support, allowing you to concentrate on what you're being trained to do: meeting clients, understanding their circumstances and delivering good financial advice.

It means you can spend your first few years as an Adviser gaining a significant amount of genuine client experience without having to simultaneously worry about where your next client is coming from.

Earnings and progression
  • The starting basic salary is approximately £35,000, but the longer-term earning potential is considerably higher.
  • Once established, Advisers receive an uncapped quarterly bonus equivalent to 40% of new business written.
  • And the earning potential isn't theoretical.
  • Successful Advisers within the existing team can generate around £20,000 to £22,000 of new business per month, with established members of the team currently earning total incomes ranging from approximately £80,000 to £150,000.
  • Basic salaries can also increase as you gain experience and take on greater responsibility.
  • There are further opportunities to progress into roles advising higher-value clients and dealing with increasingly complex financial planning requirements.
Not simply a stepping stone

This is an opportunity to get your first Adviser role, but it isn't designed simply to be a stepping stone to somewhere else.

Advisers who have developed within the team are earning very good money, enjoying the role and continuing to progress without needing to leave the business to further their careers.

As your experience grows, there are opportunities to take on more complex cases and progress towards higher-value clients, while continuing to benefit from clients being provided, strong support and significant earning potential.

One member of the team described six months in this environment as being equivalent to around two years in the field elsewhere, simply because of the amount of client exposure and experience you can gain.

Spend three or four years in an environment like this and you can develop into a highly experienced Financial Adviser while building a very attractive level of income.

Who are we looking for?

This opportunity will suit somebody who genuinely wants to build a long-term career in financial advice.

You will need to be:

  • Level 4 Diploma qualified
  • Ambitious and motivated by progression
  • Resilient and comfortable working in a busy environment
  • Extremely well organised
  • Confident communicating with clients remotely
  • Willing to learn and receptive to regular feedback
  • Prepared to work hard to develop your technical and client-facing skills
  • Interested in building a career rather than simply obtaining the Financial Adviser job title

This is a supportive environment, but it is also an intensive one. The opportunity will therefore particularly suit somebody who wants to learn quickly, work hard and take advantage of the level of client exposure available.

For somebody who has completed their qualifications and has been waiting for the opportunity to make the move into financial advice, this offers an exceptional platform from which to build a career.
