Role Overview
We're supporting a leading industrial process organisation in the search for a hands-on Electrical & Instrument Technician to join their maintenance team in Glasgow.
This is a predominantly electrical maintenance role, with approximately 75% electrical and 25% instrumentation. You'll be responsible for the preventative and reactive maintenance of electrical plant and equipment, carrying out inspections, testing, fault finding and repairs, while also supporting the maintenance and functional testing of plant instrumentation.
The role would suit a time-served Electrical Technician, Maintenance Electrician or Electrical Engineer with experience working within a heavy industrial or process environment.
The company offers a stable Monday-Friday working pattern, flexible start and finish times and no on-call requirement.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance across electrical plant and equipment.
- Inspect, test and fault find electrical systems and components.
- Carry out electrical installation, testing and inspection work.
- Maintain electrical motors, lighting, fire systems and other critical plant equipment.
- Carry out routine testing and functional checks on instrumentation equipment.
- Support the maintenance and testing of pressure and temperature transmitters, gauges, flow meters, level indicators and control valves.
- Diagnose electrical and instrumentation faults where required.
- Install and commission new electrical and instrumentation equipment, including wiring, mounting, programming and testing.
- Maintain accurate records relating to electrical and instrumentation equipment, maintenance activities and safety inspections.
- Work safely within Permit to Work and contractor control procedures.
- Oversee and coordinate electrical contractor activities where required.
- Support engineering projects and plant improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to continuous improvement, plant reliability and the safe and efficient operation of the site.
- Support maintenance activities involving pumps, valves and process equipment.
Candidate Requirements
- Time-served electrical apprenticeship with a recognised electrical qualification such as City & Guilds, NVQ, BTEC or ONC.
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations - essential.
- Hands-on electrical maintenance experience within a heavy industrial, process or manufacturing environment.
- Strong practical electrical fault-finding and maintenance experience.
- Some experience with industrial instrumentation, ideally including testing, inspection and basic fault diagnosis.
- Experience working with electrical motors, plant equipment, control systems and associated instrumentation.
- Experience working safely within Permit to Work systems and around contractors.
- Chemical/process plant experience would be advantageous, but candidates from other heavy industrial or process environments will be considered.
- Good computer literacy and ability to maintain accurate technical records.
Additional Benefits
- Additional payments and TOIL/banked hours where weekend work is required.
Ideal Candidate Profile
You'll be a hands-on Electrical Maintenance Technician, Maintenance Electrician or Electrical Engineer with a completed time-served apprenticeship and current 18th Edition qualification.
Your background will ideally be within a heavy industrial, process or manufacturing environment, with strong electrical maintenance and fault-finding experience.
The role is approximately 75% electrical and 25% instrumentation, so you don't need to be a specialist Instrumentation Technician. You'll need a good practical understanding of industrial instrumentation and be comfortable carrying out functional testing and basic diagnosis.
