Employee Relations Advisor - 12 month contract - Scotstoun, Glasgow (hybrid) - £28.15 ph UMB or £21.03 ph PAYE (Inside IR35)


The Umbrella rate quoted above is the Gross Umbrella rate (i.e. the rate we pay to the Umbrella Company inclusive of ALL employment costs). Please note, the rate paid by the Umbrella will be less, as will a Limited Deemed rate or Agency PAYE rate. Please get in touch to discuss the rates via these different payment vehicles.



The Role


As a specialist within the ER CoE, specicifically the UK Case Coaching service, this role will focus on:


  • Ensuring the provision of a comprehensive and compliant employee relations advisory service, providing strategic and legally sound advice, guidance and support to managers of all levels, and business stakeholders.
  • Managing a large portfolio of ER cases, including investigations, disciplinaries and grievances of various complexity and risk.


  • Acting as trusted adviser to local business HR and leadership.


  • Working collaboratively with key stakeholders, including but not limited to Business HR, CoE, Labour Law, Trade Union, Ethics and Security.


  • Contributing to the development of and understanding the strategic HR initiatives of the relevant organisation. Working within the wider HR model to provide guidance and to design and embed new solutions.
  • Facilitating identification of opportunities for increased efficiency and synergy across the organisation through enterprise-wide knowledge sharing.



Role Responsibilities:

Not limited to…

  • Using extensive technical knowledge and expertise to lead the resolution of ER cases
  • Ensure cases are managed in accordance with BAE policies and legal framework whilst also considering the commercial needs of the respective business
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert to assess and mitigate risk, providing advice and guidance on potential legal implications and/or reputational impact
  • Coaching and development of managers across the organisation enabling them to increase their competency in dealing with Employee Relations issues, ensuring appropriate compliance and consistency
  • Responsible for management and prioritisation of own workload.
  • Seeking advice from Team Manager, Burges Salmon or Labour Law in accordance with Ways of Working Principles
  • Influence and guide decision making by presenting clear, pragmatic, and legally sound recommendations while being sensitive to the commercial and operational impact of any decisions
  • Maintain accurate and detailed case records in accordance with internal Data Quality Principles to ensure effective compliance and risk management
  • Proactively escalate identified risk to relevant senior stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain internal and external networks and participate in CPD to remain knowledgeable of current industry activities, emerging trends, updates to legislation and case law
  • Proactively contributes to continuous improvement initiatives, including developments in technology solutions, policy & process.



What are BAE Systems looking for from you?

  • Experience of Employee Relations and Case Management practices is essential.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Acas Code of Practice, current employment law legislation and up to date case law is essential.
  • Ability to work autonomously yet escalate risk appropriately
  • Experience of working alongside Trade Unions and Employee Representative Groups.
  • Competent in data analysis to create actionable insights
  • Excellent stakeholder management, and ability to communicate persuasively, at all levels
  • Strong communication and diplomacy skills
  • Digital acumen with proficiency in progressing case management technology
  • Ability to use a range of consultancy skills to achieve the best outcome for the colleague and business
