Software/Firmware Engineer

Glasgow | £40,000 - 5-days per week on site (flexible)

Our client designs and manufactures condition monitoring equipment for power utilities and transmission companies, helping operators detect problems in high-voltage infrastructure before they cause failures. Their systems monitor partial discharge, circuit breaker condition and substation health, giving early warning of issues that would otherwise go undetected until it's too late.

The role

We're looking for a mid-level Software/Firmware Engineer to join the development team.

What you'll be doing

• Developing and maintaining C# / .NET software for Windows-embedded systems
• Working with data flowing from FPGA-based hardware sampling in the gigahertz range
• Reading from and writing to SQL Server / MySQL databases
• Interpreting and occasionally working with lower-level C code from embedded microcontrollers
• Testing and verifying your own code end to end, from spec through to deployment on hardware
• Collaborating with the wider team on cloud and web-facing components where projects overlap

What we're looking for

Essential

• Strong, demonstrable experience with C# and .NET
• Confidence reading and working with SQL (SQL Server or MySQL)

Desirable

• Exposure to C, particularly around embedded/microcontroller-level code
• Some Python experience
• Front-end exposure, ideally React
• An interest in industrial, hardware-adjacent software
