Commercial Manager - Civils - #2153012

The Opportunity

An established and growing civil engineering contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Commercial Manager to take a senior role within its commercial team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially driven professional with a strong background in civil engineering and infrastructure to take responsibility for the commercial performance of a portfolio of projects while leading and developing a team of six Quantity Surveyors.

The role will be based from Glasgow, with regular travel to projects across the Central Belt

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of 6 Quantity Surveyors, providing commercial direction, support and development.
• Take overall responsibility for the commercial management of allocated civil engineering projects.
• Develop and implement commercial strategies to maximise project performance and profitability.
• Manage project budgets, cost control, forecasting, cash flow and monthly CVRs.
• Review commercial performance and provide clear reporting to senior management.
• Manage the commercial relationship with clients, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Lead procurement activities, subcontract negotiations and account management.
• Identify and manage commercial risks, opportunities and potential areas of exposure.
• Administer and manage NEC contracts, including early warnings, compensation events, variations and contractual notices.
• Support the resolution and management of claims and contractual disputes where required.
• Ensure contractual obligations are understood, monitored and appropriately managed.
• Work closely with Project Managers, Site Managers, Estimators and operational teams to ensure commercial and delivery objectives remain aligned.
• Provide commercial input during pre-construction, tender and mobilisation stages.
• Review project forecasts and identify trends, risks and opportunities at an early stage.
• Ensure robust commercial processes, records and reporting are maintained across projects.
• Mentor and develop the wider commercial team, encouraging best practice and continuous improvement.

About You

We are looking for an experienced Commercial Manager, Senior Quantity Surveyor or Senior Commercial professional who can demonstrate:

• Significant commercial experience within civil engineering or infrastructure.
• Strong NEC3 / NEC4 experience.
• Proven experience managing and developing Quantity Surveyors or a wider commercial team.
• Strong understanding of project cost control, forecasting, CVRs and cash flow.
• Experience with subcontract procurement, negotiation and account management.
• Strong contractual and commercial awareness.
• Experience identifying, managing and mitigating commercial risk.
• Strong client and stakeholder management skills.
• The ability to work closely with operational teams and provide effective commercial challenge.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and leadership skills.
• A commercially focused and proactive approach to project delivery.

FIDIC experience would be advantageous, as would demonstrable experience in claims, dispute resolution and broader contractual matters.
