MORELA
Engineering Manager
Engineering Delivery Centre | Glasgow
Morela is proud to be supporting a fast-growing technology consultancy in the search for an Engineering Manager to lead its engineering delivery centre. This is a permanent role based in the client’s Glasgow office five days a week, matching how the team works together.
About the Client
Our client delivers enterprise SaaS platforms for large organisations, implementing, configuring and extending leading IT service management and AIOps products for their customers. The business is growing quickly and is investing in its own talent, bringing successive graduate cohorts through an in-house engineering centre in Glasgow.
Customer engagement and programme delivery are already well covered, with project managers in place. This hire is a deliberate investment in the engineering engine itself: how the team builds, how well it builds, and how fast it grows.
The Role
You will own the engineering delivery centre. Your team is made up of capable but relatively early-career developers, and your job is to turn them into a high-performing, measurable engineering team over the next 6 to 12 months, then scale it as further graduate cohorts join.
This is not a programme, PMO or customer-facing delivery role. It is for someone who has directly run development or engineering teams and cares about throughput, quality and growing people. Two Project Managers will sit under you and handle project coordination, so your focus stays on the engineering.
Responsibilities
- Own developer throughput and flow, removing blockers and building a predictable delivery cadence.
- Drive engineering quality and defect reduction across everything the team ships.
- Define and embed development standards and the SDLC, from ticket to production.
- Establish strong peer review and QA practices.
- Introduce engineering metrics and use them to run continuous improvement.
- Coach and develop junior engineers through hands-on guidance, feedback and clear career paths.
- Scale the team and its ways of working as new graduate cohorts come through.
- Lead the two Project Managers, keeping project delivery and engineering delivery aligned.
Essential Requirements
- A track record of directly managing development or engineering teams, as an Engineering Manager, Development Manager, Technical Delivery Manager or similar.
- Proven impact on team throughput, quality and defect rates, with the metrics to show it.
- Strong grounding in the SDLC, development standards, code review and QA practices.
- Experience coaching and developing junior or graduate engineers into productive team members.
- A technical background credible enough to lead engineers, even if you no longer code day to day.
- Experience scaling a team and its processes as it grows.
Desirable Experience
- Leading teams delivering on enterprise SaaS platforms rather than pure product engineering.
- Running a graduate academy, development centre or nearshore/offshore delivery centre.
- Engineering metrics frameworks such as DORA or flow metrics.
- Agile delivery and tooling such as Jira and Confluence.
- Consultancy or professional services background.
Working Environment
You will be based in the Glasgow office five days a week, alongside the engineers you lead, which is how the team works best. It is a hands-on leadership role in a growing business, with real ownership of how engineering is done and the chance to build a high-performing team largely from the ground up.
