Hays are delighted to be supporting an established independent property consultancy in its search for a Building Surveyor to join its Glasgow office. Operating across the UK, the business provides Building Surveying, Project Management and Cost Consultancy services to a broad range of commercial property stakeholders, including owners, investors, developers, funders and professional advisers.
The consultancy is involved in a wide variety of commercial property instructions and project work, with services spanning technical due diligence, property condition assessments, defect investigations, dilapidations, planned maintenance advice, project monitoring and refurbishment-related consultancy. Alongside its surveying expertise, the business also supports construction and development projects through project management and cost consultancy services, giving surveyors exposure to a diverse range of commercial property challenges and project environments.
With a collaborative approach and a strong focus on delivering practical, commercially focused advice, this opportunity will appeal to Building Surveyors looking to work within a well-established consultancy that operates across multiple service lines and commercial property sectors.
What you'll get in return
- Salary of £45,000 - £65,000, depending on experience.

Your new role
As a Building Surveyor, you will play a key role in delivering a broad range of professional and project-based surveying services across commercial property portfolios.
Your workload is likely to include activities such as technical due diligence, pre-acquisition surveys, property condition assessments, defect diagnosis and investigation, planned maintenance advice and landlord and tenant matters. You may also have the opportunity to support project-related commissions, including refurbishment, repair and development monitoring instructions.
Working closely with colleagues from across the consultancy's surveying, project management and cost consultancy teams, you will be involved in providing clear, commercially focused advice to clients and helping them manage property assets throughout their lifecycle.
This role offers the opportunity to work across a varied range of commercial property projects and instructions, supporting clients with both strategic property decisions and the ongoing management of built assets.
What you'll need to succeed
Essential requirements:
- Building Surveying experience gained within a consultancy, client-side organisation or related property environment.
- A strong understanding of commercial property and building pathology.
- Experience producing professional surveying reports and technical advice.
- Good communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with clients and colleagues.
- A proactive and commercially aware approach to problem-solving.
- Full UK driving licence (where required to undertake site-based duties).
Desirable attributes: - Chartered status or progress towards professional accreditation.
- Experience undertaking technical due diligence, dilapidations, planned maintenance or project-related surveying work.
- Exposure to refurbishment, repair or development-related projects.
- Experience working across a range of commercial property asset types.
