Director - Building Surveying - #2168787
Hollis
WHERE AMBITION THRIVES
At Hollis, we know buildings inside and out. For more than 30 years, we’ve combined independence with deep technical knowledge to help clients understand how their buildings work, how they perform and how to unlock their full potential.
Now we’re looking for a Chartered Building Surveyor to lead our business in Glasgow.
This isn’t simply another Director role.
You’ll have the autonomy and responsibility to shape the team in Glasgow, owning key client relationships, developing new opportunities, growing the team and taking full P&L responsibility.
If you’re commercially ambitious, well connected in the Scottish property market and want the freedom to build a business rather than simply inherit a job description, we’d like to hear from you.
What you’ll own
You’ll take responsibility for the performance and growth of Hollis in Glasgow.
- Leading the Hollis team in Glasgow and setting its direction.
- Taking full P&L ownership, including revenue, profitability, pipeline and commercial performance.
- Owning and developing senior client relationships.
- Winning new work and identifying opportunities to grow existing accounts.
- Providing senior technical and commercial leadership on Building Surveying instructions.
- Growing, leading and developing the team as the business expands.
- Creating opportunities across Hollis by working collaboratively with colleagues in other disciplines and locations.
- Building our profile and relationships across the Glasgow and wider Scottish property market.
You’ll have real autonomy to make decisions, shape how the business develops and turn good ideas into action. That’s important at Hollis: we trust people to take ownership rather than micromanaging them.
What you’ll bring
You’ll be a Chartered Building Surveyor (MRICS) with strong technical credentials, but we’re looking for more than technical expertise.
- Significant commercial Building Surveying experience.
- Strong relationships and a network across the Glasgow and/or Scottish property market.
- A track record of developing clients and winning work.
- The commercial judgement to own and manage a P&L.
- The confidence to lead clients, people and complex instructions.
- An appetite to develop and mentor others.
- The ambition and entrepreneurial mindset to grow a business.
This could suit an established Director looking for greater ownership, or a high-performing Associate Director ready for genuine leadership responsibility.
What you’ll get from Hollis
Autonomy, ownership and trust
We want our people to think like owners. You’ll have the space to shape the Glasgow business, make decisions and turn ideas into action, supported by accessible leaders rather than layers of hierarchy. And ownership at Hollis is more than a mindset. We’re employee-owned, giving our people the opportunity to share in the success they help create through employee-owned profit-related bonuses.
Real impact, leadership and commercial exposure
You’ll have the opportunity to lead a service, work directly with clients and build a business. We develop and reward commercial thinking, and ask our people to help win, grow and retain clients. For this role, that’s not an aspiration. It’s the job.
Progression powered by ambition
We create opportunities for people to stretch themselves, grow their expertise and shape their careers. Your ambition sets the pace, whether you want to deepen your expertise, lead a service or build a wider business.
Your voice matters
We’re independent in how we advise our clients and encourage the same independent thinking internally. We want people who will challenge, contribute ideas, find better ways of doing things and help shape the business.
One Team
You’ll lead the Hollis team in Glasgow, but you won’t operate in isolation. Hollis brings different technical disciplines together and works collaboratively across offices, regions and our European platform.
Energy, enjoyment and higher standards
We take our work seriously without taking ourselves too seriously. Our culture combines high professional standards with strong relationships, supportive colleagues and an expectation that we’ll keep raising the bar.
Reward and benefits
Alongside competitive pay and benefits, eligible employees can participate in an annual incentive plan linked to Hollis’ business performance and individual contribution. UK benefits also include an employee-owned profit-related bonus, flexible working and a range of wellbeing and lifestyle benefits.
READY TO BUILD SOMETHING?
If you’re looking for a role where you can own the numbers, own the client relationships, build the team and shape the future of Hollis in Glasgow, this could be the opportunity.
We’re looking for someone who wants responsibility and the freedom that comes with it. Someone who thinks commercially, acts like an owner and wants to leave their mark on the business.
Where ambition thrives.
