We’re looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor with substation experience to lead the commercial side of our high voltage (HV) projects across Scotland. What you’ll be doing

  • Producing budgets, reports, BOQs and profit plans
  • Running interim commercial meetings with clients and the internal project team, and reporting on commercial status to the Project Manager
  • Managing subcontractor accounts, interim valuations and final accounts, and making sure payment certificates and retentions are handled in line with sub-contract terms
  • Administering contract obligations and issuing interim and final accounts and progress applications, including accurate remeasures, site changes, dayworks and contract claims
  • Identifying escalations (material or labour) and flagging commercial risks promptly to Senior Management
  • Working closely with the Planning Engineer to keep progress reporting accurate, and understanding the commercial impact of programme changes
  • Costing and agreeing daily work changes, including subcontractor remeasurement, dayworks and site change orders
  • Keeping clear records and detailed back-up to support commercial tracking and costing
  • Negotiating with clients and their representatives where needed
  • Following the company’s Information Security Management System (ISMS) and keeping project information secure

What we’re looking for

  • Degree-level qualification in Construction Economics or Quantity Surveying
  • 5+ years’ experience in a similar role
  • NEC3 contract experience and solid knowledge of contract conditions in practice
  • Proficient in Excel
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and record-keeping skills
  • Able to work on your own initiative and prioritise without direction, with speed and accuracy
  • Substation / HV experience (essential)

Nice to have

  • A technical background as an Electrician, Instrumentation Technician or Electrical Engineer
  • Previous work placement experience
  • Strong experience building claims that capture all work under the right categories (dayworks, unit rate and contract work)
