Environmental Advisor – Major Roads Project
Location: Head Office Glasgow. Project Location Pitlochry, Perthshire
Salary: £40,000–£50,000 depending on experience
Contract: Full-time, permanent

We are recruiting an Environmental Advisor on behalf of a leading civil engineering contractor delivering a major new roads project in Pitlochry.

This is an opportunity to work closely with the construction team on a significant infrastructure scheme, providing practical environmental advice and ensuring environmental commitments are delivered on site.

The role

Reporting into the project’s environmental management team, you will help identify and manage environmental risks throughout construction. You’ll work alongside engineers, site managers and subcontractors to put effective controls in place and maintain compliance with legislation, consents and project requirements.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out site inspections, audits and environmental monitoring, ensuring actions are followed through.

  • Supporting the implementation and review of the Construction Environmental Management Plan and associated procedures.

  • Advising on pollution prevention, water management, waste, ecology, noise, dust and vibration.

  • Reviewing construction methods and risk assessments to ensure environmental controls are practical and effective.

  • Monitoring compliance with planning conditions, permits, licences and consents.

  • Investigating environmental incidents and supporting corrective and preventative actions.

  • Delivering toolbox talks and environmental briefings to site teams.

  • Maintaining environmental records, monitoring data and performance reports.

  • Liaising with the client, environmental specialists and regulators, including SEPA and NatureScot, as required.

About you

We’re looking for an environmental professional who enjoys working on site and can translate environmental requirements into clear, practical guidance.

You will ideally have:

  • Experience in an Environmental Advisor or similar role within civil engineering, highways, construction or infrastructure.

  • A relevant qualification in environmental science, environmental management, ecology or a related discipline.

  • A working knowledge of Scottish environmental legislation and construction environmental controls.

  • Experience carrying out inspections, monitoring and environmental reporting.

  • The confidence to engage with site teams, challenge poor practice and help resolve issues.

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.

  • A full UK driving licence.

Experience on major roads projects, particularly involving earthworks, drainage or works near watercourses, would be advantageous. Relevant professional membership and a CSCS card would also be beneficial.
