Construction Planner - #2174002

CNX Recruitment is partnering with an established main contracting refurbishment and fit-out contractor to recruit an experienced Construction Planner to join their team based in Glasgow.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially and technically minded planner to play a key role in the successful delivery of refurbishment, fit-out and construction projects. Working closely with Project Managers, Site Managers, commercial teams and subcontractors, you will be responsible for developing, monitoring and maintaining detailed construction programmes to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and in line with agreed timescales.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction planning within a main contracting environment, with experience in refurbishment, commercial fit-out or general building projects particularly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop detailed construction programmes, tender programmes and project schedules from pre-construction through to completion.

• Establish realistic project durations, key milestones, critical paths and construction sequencing.

• Coordinate design, procurement, subcontractor activities, resource requirements and construction phases within project programmes.

• Monitor project progress against agreed programmes, identifying delays, risks and potential constraints.

• Update programmes regularly to reflect site progress, changes in scope and revised delivery requirements.

• Work with Project Managers and Site Managers to develop recovery plans and mitigate programme delays.

• Plan refurbishment and fit-out activities, including enabling works, strip-out, structural alterations, M&E installations and internal finishes, as applicable.

• Coordinate multiple trades and subcontractors, ensuring activities are sequenced efficiently and potential clashes are identified early.

• Support tender submissions and pre-construction activities by reviewing project documentation, methodologies and programme requirements.

• Liaise with procurement teams to identify long-lead items, material requirements and critical procurement deadlines.

• Prepare programme reports, progress updates, milestone trackers and look-ahead schedules for project teams and senior management.

• Identify programme risks and develop mitigation strategies to protect contractual milestones and project completion dates.

• Attend planning and progress meetings, providing clear updates and practical recommendations to improve project delivery.

About You

The successful candidate will be an experienced Construction Planner with a strong understanding of construction methodologies, programme management and the challenges associated with main contracting refurbishment and fit-out projects.

You will be proactive, organised and confident working alongside operational and commercial teams to develop realistic programmes and maintain effective control over project delivery.

Ideally, you will have:

• Proven experience as a Construction Planner or Project Planner within the construction industry, preferably with a main contractor.

• Experience across refurbishment, interior fit-out or general building construction projects.

• Strong knowledge of construction sequencing, critical path analysis, procurement planning and programme monitoring.

• Experience using planning software such as Asta Powerproject, Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.

• Excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to engage effectively with site teams, subcontractors and senior management.

• A relevant construction-related qualification would be advantageous, although equivalent industry experience will be considered.
