Full Stack Engineer (Java, Angular/React)

Location: Glasgow, United Kingdom (Hybrid - Minimum 2 Days Onsite per Week)

Contract: Initial 6-Month Contract

Rate: Up to £500 per day (Inside IR35)

Opportunity: Strong potential to transition into a permanent position following the initial contract term

The Opportunity

Our client is seeking an experienced Full Stack Engineer to join a newly established engineering capability delivering strategic technology solutions within the financial services sector.

This role will suit a hands-on engineer with strong expertise in Java and Spring Boot for backend development, combined with Angular and/or React for frontend delivery. You will be responsible for building secure, scalable, enterprise-grade applications while helping to establish engineering standards and best practices across multiple client engagements.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain full-stack applications using Java, Spring Boot, and Angular or React.
• Build and integrate RESTful APIs and microservices-based solutions.
• Collaborate with engineering, DevOps, QA, and architecture teams to deliver high-quality software solutions.
• Translate business requirements into scalable, secure, and maintainable technical designs.
• Participate in architecture discussions, technical workshops, and code reviews.
• Contribute to modern engineering practices, including CI/CD, DevSecOps, and Agile delivery methodologies.
• Ensure applications meet performance, security, accessibility, and operational requirements.
• Engage with stakeholders to support delivery planning and technical decision-making.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong commercial experience with Java and Spring Boot.
• Proven frontend development experience using Angular and/or React.
• Solid understanding of REST APIs, microservices architecture, and secure application development.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
• Background working within banking, financial services, insurance, or other highly regulated environments.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Experience working within Agile delivery teams.
• Ability to contribute effectively within a collaborative, delivery-focused environment.

Desirable Experience

• Testing frameworks including JUnit, Cypress, or Jest.
• Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
• Experience with observability, monitoring, and performance optimisation.
• Previous consulting experience or a strong consulting mindset.
• Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to engineering best practices.
