Your new company
An established independent environmental consultancy is looking to appoint an experienced Director of Environmental Consultancy to play a key role in the continued growth and development of the business.
This is a senior opportunity for an experienced environmental professional who enjoys taking a strategic overview of multidisciplinary projects, working closely with clients and supporting talented technical teams. The role will primarily focus on environmental planning and development projects, bringing together disciplines including EIA, ecology, hydrology and flood risk.
Your new role
You will work alongside the existing leadership team, providing technical and commercial oversight across a varied portfolio of environmental projects.
Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and coordinating multidisciplinary environmental projects.
  • Providing strategic advice across EIA, environmental planning, ecology, hydrology and flood risk.
  • Supporting clients throughout the planning and development process.
  • Providing technical oversight and supporting the continued development of the team.
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Identifying new opportunities and contributing to business development.
  • Supporting projects involving blue-green infrastructure, development planning and environmental assessment.

What you'll need to succeed
You'll be an experienced environmental consultancy professional, ideally operating at Principal, Associate, Technical Director or Director level, with the technical breadth and commercial awareness to oversee multidisciplinary environmental projects.
You'll ideally bring:

  • Significant experience working within an environmental consultancy, with responsibility for complex development and planning-led projects.
  • Strong multidisciplinary experience, with the ability to understand and coordinate disciplines including EIA, ecology, EcIA, hydrology and flood risk.
  • A strong understanding of the planning and development process, including how environmental constraints and opportunities influence project design and planning strategy.
  • Experience managing projects from initial site assessment and environmental strategy through to planning and delivery.
  • The ability to provide high-level technical oversight, coordinating specialist inputs and ensuring projects are delivered to a high standard.
  • Strong client management and communication skills, with the confidence to provide strategic environmental advice to developers, planners and wider project teams.
  • Proven commercial awareness, including an understanding of project budgets, proposals and the commercial delivery of consultancy work.
  • Experience of business development and work winning, or the ability to build client relationships and develop new opportunities over time.
  • Previous experience leading, mentoring or supporting technical teams, with a collaborative leadership style.
  • The confidence to think creatively and provide pragmatic, solutions-focused advice rather than approaching projects from a purely technical perspective.

What you'll get in return

  • £60,000-£65,000 salary, dependent on experience.
  • Fully remote working and geographical flexibility.
  • Private healthcare.
  • Workplace pension.
  • Salary sacrifice options.
  • Full Apple Mac working equipment.
  • Support towards chartership and professional development.
  • 28 days' annual leave, inclusive.
  • The opportunity to take on an influential leadership position within a growing specialist consultancy.
