Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Design / Engineering Coordinator to play a key role in the delivery of complex civil engineering and infrastructure projects across Scotland.

Working closely with clients, designers and operational project teams, you will coordinate and manage the design process from contract award through to completion, ensuring designs are delivered on programme, achieve the necessary approvals and support successful construction on site.

The successful candidate will be expected to travel to various project locations throughout Scotland as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the development and coordination of design from contract award through to project completion.
  • Provide clear direction to designers and consultants, ensuring required information is delivered in line with programme requirements.
  • Ensure designs are fully coordinated, reviewed and approved ahead of the construction programme.
  • Review design information for compliance, buildability, commercial viability and temporary works requirements.
  • Contribute to the management of risk, opportunity and value engineering.
  • Identify and resolve technical and design issues, sharing solutions across the wider project team.
  • Work proactively to minimise risks associated with defects, hazards and non-compliance.
  • Support the implementation of appropriate design information workflows and document control procedures.
  • Assist with the implementation and use of BIM across projects.
  • Support clients in meeting their responsibilities under CDM Regulations and throughout the design development process.
  • Work collaboratively with operational, commercial and engineering teams to ensure designs support safe and efficient project delivery.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Proven design coordination experience within civil engineering, construction or infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of modern construction techniques, plant and equipment.
  • Good technical knowledge of civil engineering and infrastructure projects.
  • Commercially and contractually aware, with knowledge of common forms of contract including NEC and JCT.
  • Knowledge of MEICA integration within civil engineering design would be beneficial.
  • Experience using and promoting BIM on live projects.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office, Asta Powerproject, AutoCAD and relevant document management systems.
  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or another relevant construction/engineering discipline.

The Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity to join an established civil engineering contractor with a strong presence in Scotland, working on a varied portfolio of infrastructure projects. The position would particularly suit someone with an engineering or construction background who has progressed into design coordination/design management and enjoys working closely with both design and site delivery teams.
