Principal Engineer - Rail Civils & Structures

Glasgow
I'm currently working with a growing, employee-owned engineering consultancy to recruit a Principal Engineer for their Glasgow office.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer with strong rail infrastructure experience and proven CRE capability who is looking to take on a senior leadership role within a growing business.
The company delivers a diverse portfolio of rail infrastructure projects, alongside work across transportation, energy, heavy civil engineering and structural sectors. You'll play a key role in leading project delivery, developing client relationships, mentoring engineers and supporting future growth.

The Role

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the design and delivery of major rail civils and structures projects
  • Providing technical oversight and approval of engineering solutions
  • Acting as a Contractor's Responsible Engineer (CRE)
  • Managing multidisciplinary project teams
  • Overseeing programme delivery, budgets and project profitability
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships
  • Supporting business development activities and winning new work
  • Mentoring and developing engineers across the team
  • Representing the business at client meetings and industry events

About You

  • A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Chartered status (CEng MICE, MIStructE or equivalent)
  • Proven experience operating as a CRE within the rail sector
  • Strong technical knowledge of rail civils and structural engineering
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Excellent client-facing and stakeholder management skills
  • Commercial awareness and experience delivering profitable projects

Experience working with Network Rail standards and NEC contracts would be beneficial.

Why Consider the Role?

This opportunity would suit someone looking for more than project delivery alone.
You'll have the chance to influence the direction of a growing consultancy, help develop engineering teams, take ownership of client relationships and play an active role in winning and delivering work.
The business has built a strong reputation within the rail sector and offers a collaborative environment where individuals are encouraged to take ownership, contribute ideas and share in the company's future success.
