The Opportunity

We are recruiting on behalf of an established international organisation seeking an experienced and commercially minded Health & Safety Manager to take full ownership of its health and safety function across UK and European operations.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior H&S professional looking to take on a business-wide leadership position, with responsibility for developing strategy, driving compliance and influencing health and safety standards across multiple locations.

The position combines strategic leadership with hands-on operational involvement, working closely with Directors, senior management and operational teams to ensure a consistent and proactive approach to health and safety.

The role is preferably based in Glasgow and will involve regular travel across the UK, with some involvement in European operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Take overall responsibility for the organisation's health and safety strategy, policies, procedures and management systems.
• Develop and implement H&S objectives, driving continuous improvement across the business.
• Act as the principal source of competent health and safety advice to Directors and senior management.
• Oversee health and safety compliance across multiple operational locations.
• Lead internal audits, compliance reviews and assurance activities, identifying risks and implementing improvements.
• Manage accident and incident investigations, including statutory reporting and RIDDOR compliance.
• Ensure appropriate management of workplace risks, including fire safety, asbestos, legionella, working at height and contractor activities.
• Monitor third-party contractors, external service providers and suppliers to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and company standards.
• Identify training requirements and support the development of health and safety awareness and competence across the business.
• Produce health and safety performance reports and recommendations for senior leadership.
• Support European operations with health and safety matters, coordinating with local specialists where required.
• Monitor legislative developments and ensure appropriate changes are implemented across the organisation.

Requirements

We are looking for an experienced health and safety professional who can demonstrate:

• NEBOSH National Diploma or equivalent Level 6 health and safety qualification.
• CMIOSH status, or Graduate IOSH membership working towards chartership.
• Significant health and safety experience within a multi-site or complex operational environment.
• Proven experience developing and implementing health and safety strategies, policies and management systems.
• Strong working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation, including CDM Regulations, RIDDOR and fire safety requirements.
• Experience managing audits, compliance programmes, incident investigations and corrective actions.
• Experience overseeing third-party contractors, suppliers and external service providers.
• Recognised auditing qualification or demonstrable lead-auditor experience, ideally involving ISO 45001.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to advise and influence senior leadership.
• Ability to work autonomously and manage responsibilities across multiple locations.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.

Desirable Experience:

• Experience supporting international or European operations.
• Experience implementing or maintaining ISO 45001 or ISO 14001 management systems.
• Additional fire safety or environmental qualifications.
• Experience working within a large, multi-site organisation.
