Looking for a Career, Not Just a Job?

Our client is seeking a motivated and career-focused Site / Laboratory Technician to join their growing Materials Testing team in Glasgow.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone at the beginning of their career journey who wants to develop specialist technical skills within the construction, engineering and infrastructure sectors. Full training will be provided, so previous materials testing experience is not essential.

We are looking for someone with strong analytical skills, a willingness to learn and a positive attitude towards hands-on work. This role offers genuine long-term progression for candidates who are prepared to work hard, develop their skills and grow within the business.

The Role

This is a varied position combining both laboratory and site-based activities. You will be involved in testing and analysing construction materials used on major building and infrastructure projects while learning industry-standard testing procedures from experienced technicians.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out testing of concrete, aggregates, soils and other construction materials.
  • Prepare, handle and assess concrete cube samples.
  • Record and maintain accurate testing data.
  • Enter results and sample information onto internal computer systems.
  • Book samples into the laboratory management system.
  • Assist with material sampling and testing activities on customer sites.
  • Support experienced technicians with laboratory and site operations.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and testing apparatus.
  • Ensure work is completed in line with quality, health and safety procedures.
  • Keep work areas clean, organised and safe.
  • Undertake practical and physical tasks associated with sample handling and testing.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Practical, hands-on approach to work.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to follow procedures and work accurately.
  • Good organisational and communication skills.
  • Reliable, hardworking and keen to build a long-term career.
  • Basic IT skills and confidence using computer systems.

Desirable Experience

Previous experience is beneficial but not essential. We would be interested in candidates from backgrounds such as:

  • Construction
  • Manufacturing
  • Engineering
  • Production
  • Warehouse Operations
  • Laboratory Environments
  • Quality Control
  • Technical or Scientific Roles

Desirable Qualifications

  • Scientific, Engineering or Technical qualification.
  • CSCS Card.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Experience within construction materials testing or quality inspection.

Working Environment

This role is not solely laboratory-based. Candidates must be comfortable working in both laboratory and site environments and undertaking physical, hands-on duties as part of their development into a fully trained Materials Testing Technician.

What's On Offer?

  • Temp-to-perm opportunity.
  • Full training provided.
  • Long-term career progression.
  • Exposure to both laboratory and site-based work.
  • Monday to Friday working pattern.
  • Supportive and experienced team environment.
  • Opportunity to gain specialist industry experience and technical skills.

Additional Information

Drug and Alcohol testing may be carried out in line with company and site requirements. Successful applicants must be willing to comply with all health, safety and quality standards.
