The Opportunity

Mac Recruit Group is recruiting for an experienced Control & Instrumentation (C&I) Commissioning Technician / Engineer to support commissioning activities at a major Power Generation facility in Glasgow.

This is a hands-on, site-based contract opportunity suited to an experienced Instrument Technician or C&I Commissioning Engineer with a strong background in loop checking, I/O testing, instrumentation fault finding and control systems.

Previous experience within Power Generation would be advantageous, although candidates from other heavy process industries are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out instrument loop checking and I/O testing between field instrumentation and plant control systems.
• Perform testing and verification of signals to Valmet DCS and Emerson SRS systems.
• Test, inspect and troubleshoot field instrumentation, including pressure, temperature, flow and vibration instruments.
• Carry out functional testing and fault finding on AUMA actuated valves and ABB variable frequency drives (VFDs).
• Use HART communicators to support instrument configuration, testing and diagnostics.
• Identify and resolve instrumentation, wiring, signal and control system faults during commissioning.
• Interpret and work from instrument loop diagrams, technical drawings and as-built documentation.
• Complete commissioning test sheets, testing protocols and associated technical documentation.
• Support final testing, verification and sign-off of instrumentation and control systems.
• Work closely with site engineering and commissioning teams to ensure activities are completed safely and to the required standards.

Skills & Experience Required

• Proven experience as a C&I Technician, Instrument Technician, E&I Technician or C&I Commissioning Engineer.
• Strong practical experience carrying out instrument loop checks, I/O testing and commissioning activities.
• Good understanding of field instrumentation, signal testing and fault diagnosis.
• Experience working with DCS, PLC or industrial control systems.
• Ability to read and interpret instrument drawings, loop diagrams and technical documentation.
• Experience completing commissioning test records, testing protocols and sign-off documentation.
• Comfortable working independently in a hands-on industrial commissioning environment.

Desirable Experience

• Previous exposure to Valmet DCS or Emerson control/safety systems.
• Experience with AUMA actuators and ABB VFDs.
• Practical experience using HART communicators.
• Previous commissioning experience.
• Experience supporting plant start-up, commissioning or major industrial projects.
