Network Engineer

Glasgow / Cumbernauld Area | 6-Month Contract | £450 per day (Umbrella)

We're currently supporting a specialist cybersecurity and infrastructure consultancy delivering a major network transformation project across multiple sites in the Glasgow/Cumbernauld area.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on Network Engineer to join a genuine infrastructure implementation project, taking ownership of network deployment, migration, security, and ongoing support activities.

The Role

The successful Network Engineer will play a key role in the preparation, installation, configuration and migration of a new network environment. Initially focused on project delivery, the role will transition into ongoing network management, infrastructure support and security operations following implementation.

You'll be working with modern networking and security technologies, helping deliver a resilient, secure and well-documented environment whilst collaborating with existing IT teams.

What You'll Be Doing

• Preparing, configuring and testing network hardware prior to deployment
• Installing and commissioning new network infrastructure
• Supporting network migrations and cutover activities
• Managing and supporting network switches, firewalls and security controls
• Configuring secure remote management solutions
• Working with Juniper switching technologies, including Juniper Mist
• Supporting firewall technologies including Sophos and similar platforms
• Troubleshooting network and infrastructure issues
• Maintaining technical documentation and change records
• Providing post-implementation support and resolving operational incidents
• Working closely with customer IT teams to ensure successful knowledge transfer

Skills & Experience Required

We're particularly interested in candidates with:

• 3+ years' experience within Network Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering or Senior Technical Support
• Strong hands-on networking experience
• Experience configuring and supporting enterprise network switches and firewalls
• Recent Juniper experience, ideally including Juniper Mist
• Experience working across firewalls and network security technologies
• Knowledge of network security best practice and secure infrastructure design
• Experience delivering network installations, upgrades, migrations or cutovers
• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
• Experience supporting Microsoft infrastructure and Active Directory environments

Highly Desirable

• Sophos Firewall experience
• OpenSense / OPNsense experience
• Juniper certifications
• Experience working within education, healthcare, government or other security-conscious environments
• Experience working in predominantly onsite technical roles

Working Pattern

• Initially onsite during implementation and stabilisation
• Ongoing requirement for site visits following project completion
• Two locations within the Glasgow/Cumbernauld area
• Some out-of-hours work may be required during migration and cutover activities

Contract Details

• Contract Length: 6 Months
• Rate: £450 per day (Umbrella)
• Location: Glasgow / Cumbernauld Area
• Interview Process: Two Stages
• Clearance: Enhanced DBS required
