About Nuvion

Nuvion is a multi-discipline engineering consultancy working solely in the UK water sector. We deliver feasibility, outline and detailed design for UK water companies and the Tier 1–3 contractors who build their assets.

Founded in 2024, we’ve grown to a team of 25 across Glasgow, Newcastle and London in two and a half years. We’ve done it by working differently:

  • Lean delivery. We put the right capability on each job and keep process proportionate. Engineering effort goes where it creates value, without compromising quality or assurance.
  • Agile and responsive. Small multidisciplinary teams and short decision chains let us move quickly when projects change.
  • Practical engineering. We design solutions that can be built, operated and maintained, not just ones that work on paper.
  • Digital with a purpose. We use Revit, Twinmotion, data and automation to improve coordination and decisions, not as a sales pitch.

The role

We’re hiring a Civil Discipline Lead to take ownership of civil engineering across our water projects and shape the discipline as we grow. It’s a genuine lead role with real autonomy. You’ll set the standards, help build the team and grow with the business.

You will:

  • Lead civil design on non-infrastructure projects at wastewater and water treatment works, from feasibility through to detailed design.
  • Own civil deliverables, including site layouts, earthworks, access and hardstanding, below-ground drainage and pipework, and civil input to process and structural design.
  • Review and approve drawings, models and calculations, and give technical direction to engineers and technicians.
  • Manage interfaces with process, MEICA, structural and digital disciplines, and coordinate the hydraulic profile.
  • Design for constructability, operability and maintenance, working closely with contractors and client operations teams.
  • Meet CDM 2015 designer duties and client standards and specifications.
  • Contribute to planning, resourcing, risk management and fee proposals for civil work.
  • Develop the civil discipline: design standards, templates, tools, recruitment and mentoring.

About you

  • 8+ years’ civil engineering design experience, predominantly on non-infrastructure water or wastewater treatment works.
  • Experience delivering for UK water companies, directly or through contractor frameworks.
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant water industry specifications and standards.
  • Experience leading design teams and managing deliverables, programme and quality.
  • Confident with clients and contractors, and able to explain the reasoning behind a design decision.
  • Comfortable with BIM workflows (e.g. Civil 3D, Revit) and interested in using digital tools to improve delivery.
  • Chartered (ICE) or working towards it is desirable.

What we offer

  • A lead role with autonomy and a direct say in how the discipline and business develop.
  • Growth that tracks the business: as Nuvion scales, so does your role.
  • Hybrid working from Glasgow, Newcastle or London, with remote considered for the right candidate.
  • Competitive salary
  • Private Medical Insurance
  • Life Assurance (4x Salary tax-free)
  • 5% matched pension
  • 33 days holiday (inclusive of flexible bank holidays)
  • Professional fees covered
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Salary Sacrifice Car Scheme (Starting January 2027)
