Job Description – Project Marine Manager

Overview

The Project Marine Manager is a key position within the Offshore Directorate Marine Function, responsible for supporting the delivery of marine operations and assurance across our clients Transmission project portfolio.

This role is focused on ensuring that all vessel and marine activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with defined assurance standards and regulatory requirements, while supporting successful project delivery.


Key Role Information

  • Location: Onshore – Hybrid, ideally 2–3 days per week in Glasgow or Perth
  • Contract Length: 12 months initial
  • Hours: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week
  • Travel: Required
  • Day Rate: £850–£900 via PAYE Umbrella


Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain safety as the primary focus across all marine operations.
  • Lead the marine and vessel assurance processes for assigned projects.
  • Ensure all vessel operations meet defined assurance standards and compliance requirements.
  • Work closely with project teams, contractors, subcontractors, and vessel crews to coordinate marine activities.
  • Provide marine expertise and input into:
  • Contract development
  • Stage gate documentation
  • Develop and implement:
  • Project Marine Plans
  • Vessel Management Plans
  • Support the delivery of offshore works ensuring safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible operations.
  • Contribute to incident investigations and promote continuous safety improvement.


Candidate Profile (Experience & Skills)

Essential Experience

  • Extensive experience in marine and vessel assurance within offshore projects.
  • Strong background in the offshore energy sector, including marine operations.
  • Experience working with contractors and vessel operators in complex project environments.
  • Experience in incident investigation and on-site safety leadership.

Technical Knowledge

  • Advanced knowledge of:
  • Marine construction vessel types
  • Specialist offshore equipment
  • Strong understanding of marine assurance frameworks, standards, and processes.
  • Familiarity with:
  • IMCA (International Marine Contractors Association) guidelines
  • OCIMF (Oil Companies International Marine Forum) standards
  • Awareness of environmental considerations in offshore marine operations.


Qualifications

  • Master Mariner (Class 1) Certification – essential
  • Proven command experience at sea

  • Ability to influence safety culture across multi-disciplinary teams
  • High attention to detail in compliance, assurance, and risk management
  • Effective communication across technical and non-technical stakeholders
