Pre Construction Manager - #2148888

We are working with a leading contractor within the energy and infrastructure sector who is expanding its pre-construction team to support a significant 2026 project pipeline.

The initial portfolio includes the design and build of two major substations, with the role based from the client’s offices just outside Glasgow.

The Pre-Construction Manager will take responsibility for coordinating and managing projects through the pre-construction phase, ensuring they are well planned, commercially viable, technically deliverable and ready for construction.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the pre-construction process from initial opportunity through to project handover.
- Coordinate design, commercial, procurement, planning and construction activities during pre-construction.
- Manage inputs from internal teams, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers.
- Review project requirements, specifications, designs and tender documentation.
- Develop and manage pre-construction programmes, deliverables and key milestones.
- Identify and manage technical, commercial, programme and construction risks.
- Support the development of construction methodologies, build strategies and project solutions.
- Coordinate design development and ensure designs are commercially and practically deliverable.
- Lead engagement with subcontractors, suppliers and design consultants.
- Support tender submissions, cost planning, procurement strategies and commercial reviews.
- Ensure project assumptions, exclusions, risks and opportunities are clearly identified.
- Manage the transition from pre-construction into the delivery team, ensuring a robust project handover.
- Build strong working relationships with clients and key project stakeholders.
- Support and develop junior members of the pre-construction team.

Experience & Qualifications

Essential:
- 5+ years' experience within construction, civil engineering or infrastructure.
- Previous experience working within pre-construction, estimating, design management, project management or bid management.
- Experience managing or coordinating multiple project disciplines and stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of construction methodology and project delivery.
- Ability to review and challenge designs, specifications and project requirements.
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of project risk.
- Excellent communication, coordination and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage deadlines and multiple workstreams in a fast-paced environment.

Desirable:
- Experience within the energy, utilities, power or substation sector.
- Experience working for a main contractor.
- Previous experience managing pre-construction teams or workstreams.
- Knowledge of NEC contracts.
- Relevant construction, engineering or project management qualification.

Salary open to negotiation depending on experience.
