The Role

This Transport Manager opportunity is with a well-established logistics business based in Glasgow, taking ownership of a busy general haulage operation.

The business is looking for a hands-on Transport Manager with a strong background in general haulage, who can lead the day-to-day operation while driving improvements across service, fleet utilisation, compliance and cost.

Working closely with the wider Logistics distribution and supply chain function, you'll be responsible for developing the transport team, maintaining operational standards and ensuring the business continues to deliver against customer expectations.

• Leading the day-to-day transport operation within a busy general haulage environment
• Managing, coaching and developing drivers, planners and transport colleagues
• Overseeing daily transport planning, vehicle allocation and fleet utilisation
• Ensuring compliance with Operator Licence requirements, DVSA regulations, drivers' hours and Working Time Directive
• Managing driver performance, briefings, debriefs and operational issues
• Monitoring transport KPIs across service, cost, efficiency and vehicle utilisation
• Working closely with customers, subcontracted hauliers and the wider Logistics distribution and supply chain teams
• Managing transport costs and identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency
• Driving Continuous Improvement initiatives across planning, compliance and service delivery

• Proven experience as a Transport Manager, Transport Operations Manager or similar transport leadership position
• Strong background within general haulage is essential
• Experience managing drivers, planners and day-to-day transport operations
• Strong knowledge of Operator Licence requirements, drivers' hours and transport compliance
• Experience managing fleet utilisation, transport costs and operational KPIs
• Commercial awareness with the ability to balance customer service and profitability
• National Transport Manager CPC would be highly advantageous
• Experience working within a Logistics distribution and supply chain environment
• A proactive, hands-on leadership style with strong communication and problem-solving skills

This Transport Manager role in Glasgow offers a salary of £45,000 - £50,000 + Car Allowance and would suit an experienced general haulage professional looking for genuine operational ownership and the opportunity to drive performance within an established logistics business.
