Senior Estimator – Civil Engineering

TWG Consulting is recruiting for an experienced Senior Estimator to join a leading Tier 1 main contractor based in Glasgow.

Offering a salary of up to £80,000 per annum plus an attractive benefits package, this is an excellent opportunity for a commercially astute Senior Estimator to join an established civil engineering business and play a key role in securing major infrastructure projects across Scotland.

You'll be joining an experienced pre-construction team, taking responsibility for preparing competitive and accurate tenders while working closely with operational, commercial and design teams to develop winning bids.

We're looking for someone with a strong civil engineering background who understands the technical and commercial aspects of delivering complex infrastructure projects.

The Role

As Senior Estimator, your responsibilities will include:

• Leading the preparation of detailed estimates and tenders for civil engineering and infrastructure projects.
• Reviewing tender documentation, drawings, specifications and contract requirements.
• Preparing accurate cost estimates covering labour, plant, materials, subcontractors and preliminaries.
• Developing competitive pricing strategies alongside the wider bid and commercial teams.
• Managing subcontractor and supplier enquiries, quotations and tender comparisons.
• Identifying commercial risks, opportunities and value engineering solutions.
• Working closely with design, planning and operational teams to develop construction methodologies.
• Attending site visits, tender meetings and client presentations where required.
• Supporting tender adjudications and presenting estimates to senior management.
• Reviewing programmes and ensuring estimates reflect proposed construction methods and project constraints.
• Supporting the handover of successful tenders to the project delivery teams.
• Mentoring and supporting junior estimators within the pre-construction team.

About You

We're looking for a Senior Estimator with:

• A strong civil engineering or infrastructure background.
• Previous experience working for a main contractor, ideally within a Tier 1 or established regional contractor.
• Proven experience preparing and managing tenders for civil engineering projects.
• A strong understanding of construction methods, materials, plant and labour costs.
• Experience pricing projects across sectors such as highways, rail, water, utilities, structures or general civil engineering.
• Good knowledge of NEC contracts and associated commercial risks.
• Strong analytical, numerical and commercial skills.
• Experience using estimating software and Microsoft Excel.
• The ability to work independently and manage multiple tender deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills and the confidence to engage with senior management and project teams.
• A degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering or Construction Management would be advantageous.
