As a Director of Softwre Engineeringat JPMorgan Chase, you lead a technical area within the Commercial and Investment Banking Payments Technology team and drive impact within teams, technologies, and projects across departments. Utilize your in-depth knowledge of software, applications, technical processes, and product management to drive multiple complex projects and initiatives, while serving as a primary decision maker for your teams and be a driver of innovation and solution delivery.


As a Director of Software Engineering at JPMorgan Chase within the Commercial and Investment Banking Payments Technology team, you will be leading a technical area and promoting impactful changes across teams, technologies, and projects. Your in-depth knowledge of software, applications, technical processes, and product management will be utilized to manage multiple complex projects and initiatives. You will be a catalyst for innovation and solution delivery. JPMorgan Chase, a leader in the payments industry, processes payments averaging $10 trillion dollars, representing 24% of the market. We are constantly innovating, adding new payment methods like JP Coin, expanding into new markets, and accelerating settlement speeds such as real-time payments. These new features and offerings have led to increasing volumes, and with rising regulations, there is a need for more advanced technologies to seamlessly deliver to regulators to maintain or boost business momentum.

This dynamic role is centered in the thriving EMEA region, where regulatory landscapes are evolving alongside the rapid expansion of the Payments industry into new markets like the UAE. In this role, you'll seamlessly blend your understanding of business functions across EMEA jurisdictions with the creation of sustainable technology solutions. You'll lead a talented team of 25+ professionals, including 3-4 direct-report managers, driving innovation and excellence. We're seeking an individual eager to harness modern technology to deliver autonomous solutions, effectively manage stakeholders, and inspire the team to align with the visionary goals of the Payments business.


Job responsibilities



  • Leads technology and process implementations to achieve functional technology objectives

  • Holds accountability for decisions that influence teams' resources, budget, tactical operations, and the execution and implementation of processes and procedures

  • Carries governance accountability for coding decisions, control obligations, and measures of success such as cost of ownership, maintainability, and portfolio operations

  • Delivers technical solutions that can be leveraged across multiple businesses and domains

  • Influences peer leaders and senior stakeholders across the business, product, and technology teams

  • Champions the firm's culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect

  • Possesses deep expertise with cloud implementations and security controls

  • Strives to adopt newer technologies including AI-ML

  • Demonstrates expertise with implementing reliable platforms with triple or more 9s

  • Maintains problem solving mind-set


Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills



  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and expert applied experience. In addition, expert experience leading technologists to manage, anticipate and solve complex technical items within your domain of expertise

  • Experience developing or leading cross-functional teams of technologists

  • Experience with hiring, developing, and recognizing talent

  • Experience leading a product as a Product Owner or Product Manager

  • Practical cloud native experience

  • Expertise in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field

  • Deeper understanding of technologies: Pyspark, AWS Cloud, Databricks, Java

  • Experience implementing scaled platforms

  • Exellent communication skills to cater to diverse stakeholders


Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills



  • Experience working at code level

  • Understanding of the regulations in EMEA

  • Adept at working in multiple timezones

  • Payments subject matter expertise

  • Masters or Ph.D preferred in software or data engineering disciplines
