Quantity Surveyor – General Construction

An established construction contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team in Glasgow.

The role will suit a QS with a background in general construction, with experience in joinery, fit-out, refurbishment or building projects particularly welcome. However, applications from Quantity Surveyors with other relevant construction backgrounds will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the commercial and financial aspects of construction projects from tender through to completion.
• Prepare and manage project budgets, forecasts and cost reports.
• Prepare valuations, applications for payment and final accounts.
• Manage variations, valuations and commercial changes.
• Procure and manage subcontractors and suppliers.
• Review and negotiate subcontractor quotations and accounts.
• Monitor project costs and identify potential commercial risks.
• Assist with tendering and pricing new work.
• Maintain accurate commercial records and reporting.
• Work closely with project managers, site teams, clients and subcontractors.
• Ensure projects are delivered within agreed budgets and commercial targets.

Requirements

• Proven experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within the construction industry.
• Experience across general construction, refurbishment, fit-out, joinery or similar would be advantageous.
• Strong understanding of construction contracts and commercial processes.
• Experience with valuations, variations, subcontractor management and final accounts.
• Good commercial awareness and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Relevant construction or surveying qualification preferred, but experience will be considered.

Joinery experience is ideal, but the company is happy to consider QS candidates from a broad range of construction backgrounds.
