Wilkinson & Associates

W&A is partnering with an innovative business operating in the advanced manufacturing and technology sector to recruit a Project Accountant for its Glasgow team. Working on technically complex projects in a highly specialised environment, the business offers an interesting setting for a commercially minded finance professional.

This is an opportunity for someone looking to move beyond traditional reporting, work closely with operational and project teams, and play a meaningful role in commercial decision-making.

Location: Glasgow

Working Arrangements: Hybrid – 3 days per week in the office

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you will take ownership of financial performance across a portfolio of projects, working closely with Project Managers to provide the analysis and commercial insight needed to support effective decision-making.

You'll play an important role in understanding project costs, forecasting financial outcomes and identifying opportunities to improve profitability. Alongside this, you'll contribute to month-end reporting, financial controls and improvements to existing processes.

This would suit someone with a strong management accounting background who enjoys understanding how a business operates and wants to develop their commercial involvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage project budgets, forecasts, cost-to-complete estimates and profitability analysis.
  • Partner with Project Managers to monitor financial performance and support commercial decisions.
  • Analyse project costs, revenue, margins, billing and cash flow, identifying risks and opportunities.
  • Prepare financial reports, KPIs and variance analysis, providing clear commentary on performance.
  • Support month-end activities, including revenue recognition, accruals and prepayments.
  • Provide financial input into project changes, contract variations and business planning.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen financial reporting, forecasting and project controls.

What You'll Bring

We're particularly interested in speaking with commercially minded Management Accountants who have developed their experience within industry and are comfortable working closely with non-finance teams.

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • A relevant accounting or finance qualification.
  • Strong management accounting experience, including budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis.
  • A good understanding of costs, margins, profitability and commercial performance.
  • Confidence working with operational stakeholders and communicating financial information clearly.
  • Strong Excel skills and experience with ERP or finance systems.
  • An analytical, proactive approach with the ability to identify issues and recommend improvements.

Experience in a project-based environment would be beneficial, although candidates from broader commercial or operational finance backgrounds are also encouraged to apply.

Package & Benefits

  • Salary of £55,000 + benefits.
  • Hybrid working, with three days per week in the Glasgow office.

Why Apply?

  • Broader commercial involvement: Build on your management accounting experience and develop greater influence over business performance.
  • Senior exposure: Work directly with the CFO and build relationships across the wider organisation.
  • Varied project work: Gain financial exposure across multiple projects, each with different commercial priorities and challenges.
  • Scope to improve processes: Contribute ideas and help strengthen how financial information is used across the business.
